One of the videos I watched on edutopia.org was titled “Harness Your Students’ Digital Smarts" (http://www.edutopia.org/digital-generation-teachers-vicki-davis). I think the video made several very good points regarding technology education. Vicki Davis, the teacher featured in the video, has used many types of technology in her classroom to help the students become “digital citizens.” She is an advocate of teachers using new technology, even if they feel they don’t know everything about that technology. Allowing the students to become peer educators empowers them, and helps both the other students and the teacher learn more about the technology. I think Ms. Davis is doing great things in her classroom, and is helping to create a technology-literate generation. In my classroom, I imagine that technology will play a large role. I value different learning styles, and recognize that not everyone will learn best from a traditional, lecture-based format. I am also very comfortable with technologies like Microsoft Power Point, blogging, and the internet in general. I will probably use Microsoft Excel to help me keep track of grades and students’ progress, and hope to make myself accessible to my students through either email or a message board. I think digital media will allow me to be a more organized and efficient teacher, and will embrace students’ differing learning styles.
